Summary In São Paulo, Brazil, Campinas city is characterized by both the history of an economic boom, which was influenced by agrarian, financial, and real estate capital, and food scarcity among those comprising its low-income population. As the result of an intense process of gentrification and the presence of hunger, an urban food situation is highlighted in the reproduction of urban space that is characterized by a large number of food establishments that provide food for workers, decrease food scarcity, and prevent the inflation of staple food prices. By drawing on secondary research and empirical data, we demonstrate that Campinas has experienced important urban transformations that have prompted changes in food practices in the period between 1850 and 2016. Hunger among the poor population of Campinas is rooted in the rationalization of the urban space comprising the peripheral sprawl and the growth and densification of markets offering cheap, prepared foods in the city center; these serve to prevent famine among the vulnerable working class, which constitutes the hungry masses of Campinas’ urban world.

Resumo A cidade de Campinas, no estado de São Paulo, Brasil, caracteriza-se historicamente pela pujança econômica - influenciada pelo capital agrário, imobiliário e financeiro em sua formação urbana - e pela escassez alimentícia de sua população de mais baixa renda. Destaca-se na reprodução de seu espaço urbano, como resultado do intenso processo de aburguesamento e da vivencia da fome, uma situação alimentar urbana, que sinaliza para uma presença maciça de instituições alimentares, cujo fim seria, além de garantir a alimentação ao trabalhador, amenizar o mal da escassez e carestia de gêneros alimentícios de primeira necessidade na urbe. Baseados em pesquisa bibliográfica, documental e empírica, destaca-se que no período entre 1850 e 2016, Campinas viveu importantes transformações urbanas que modificaram suas práticas alimentares. Observa-se que a fome na população pobre campineira tem raízes na racionalidade urbana, contexto no qual o espraiamento das periferias estimulou ainda mais o crescimento e popularização de um mercado de refeições prontas e baratas no núcleo central - abrigo histórico de trabalhadores precarizados, os famintos do mundo urbano campineiro.

O território não se constitui em categoria de análise, a categoria é o território usado, porque socialmente usado ele revela-se inclusivo, confundindo-se com o espaço banal, o espaço de todos: empresas, instituições e pessoas, em que as coexistências são autorizadas pela contiguidade e solidariedade orgânica. É assim que se pode pensar outra Federação, na medida em que a base desta, o território, possa ser interpretada não como o espaço de exercício do Estado e dos grandes agentes hegemônicos da economia, mas como espaços que sustentam e explicam o conjunto de ações localizadas e interdependentes.

Territory does not constitute a category of analysis, the category is used territory, because - when used socially - it is shown to be inclusive, mingling with ordinary space, the space of all: companies, institutions and people, where coexistences are authorized by organic solidarity and contiguity. This is how one can consider another federation, to the extent that the base of the federation - the territory - can be interpreted not as the space of exercise of the State and the major hegemonic agents of the economy, but rather as spaces that support and explain the set of localized and interdependent actions.

Le territoire ne se constitue pas comme catégorie d'analyse, la catégorie est le territoire utilisé, car socialement utilisé il se révèle inclusif, tout en se confondant avec l'espace banal, l'espace de tous: les entreprises, les institutions et les individus, où les coexistences sont autorisées par la proximité et par la solidarité organique.Voilà comment l'on peut penser une autre Fédération, dans la mesure où le territoire, la base de la Fédération, peut être interprété non seulement comme l'espace de l'exercice de l'État et des grands agents hégémoniques de l'économie, mais aussi comme les espaces qui soutiennent et expliquent l'ensemble d'actions localisées et interdépendantes.

O texto aborda duas concepções de território: uma eminentemente política e outra que busca incorporar outros agentes sociais que também fazem uso do território, ainda que sem a soberania do Estado. Para abordar estas duas concepções, procuramos atualizar o debate em torno ao tema do território, ao mesmo tempo em que buscamos a gênese de sua construção. Para esta discussão, em primeiro lugar, adentramos ao terreno da construção prática do território político como base de ação do poder do Estado; em segundo lugar, refletimos sobre a construção teórica do conceito de território.

The text addresses two concepts of territory: one chiefly political, and the other which seeks to incorporate other social agents that also make use of the territory, albeit without the sovereignty of the State. To address these two concepts, we seek to bring up to date the debate on the theme of territory, while at the same time, seeking the genesis of its construction. For this discussion, we first address the area of practical construction of the political territory, as the basis of the action of power of the State; secondly, we reflect on the theoretical construction of the concept of territory.
